#SummerStyle with Arya Trinkets & Threads

Hope you all are having a great summer! I’ve been enjoying the California sunshine and my new home here in Sonoma. Since moving to Cali, I’ve noticed a few things about myself and fashion style. Honestly, I’ve been in a bit of a style rut these past few months. As a fashion blogger, I am always writing about trying new things and experimenting. Yet, I noticed from my Instagram feed that most of my looks have the same type of style and feel. The main reasons are that I gravitate to a lot of floral prints and coral / pink colors. After a while (and a closet full of flower prints!), I wanted to make a change.  My first experiment was styling a date night outfit.  I wanted something that was in trend, easy to wear, and different from what I normally wear – but still reflected my style philosophy. When I started Social and Style, I wanted to create a platform that reflected my values, passion, and South Asian heritage. Personally, I love adding South Asian touches to my outfits. For the date night look, I wore my favorite jeans with a tank and added a choker to give the look a bit of edge. To finish the style, I selected a gold clutch from Arya Trinkets & Threads.  After seeing Arya Trinkets & Threads on Etsy, I love how the brand derives inspiration from South Asian antique and contemporary pieces and injects their own little signature twist to it. Check out Arya Trinkets & Threads to see more of their fashion and accessories collection!

#DesignerSpotlight – LS Art & Illustration

One of my favorite aspects of blogging is meeting creative and inspiring people. At the start of the year, I started noticing illustrations by LS Art & Illustration on Instagram. Lakshmi, founder of LS Art & Illustration, and I both share a passion for the arts, fashion, and South Asian culture. We soon connected and started chatting about ideas for a collaboration. I loved seeing  Lakshmi’s sketching of South Asian designers and muses. We soon agree that sketching one of my bridal looks would be the perfect way for Lakshmi to showcase her talent and share her sketches with readers. I love how she captured the design and flow of my sangeet outfit so vividly.  I also can’t wait to do a live sketching session when I back on the East Coast. I chatted with Lakshmi to learn more about her creativity and passion for sketching!

Since our marriage almost three months ago (!), one of the most common questions I get from readers is where to shop for outfits for a South Asian wedding! I also receive lots of questions on what are the latest trends, where can you shop affordably, who are the best designers, and lots more related to South Asian wedding guest fashion. So many of you were delighted to learn that Indus Threads, based in Los Altos, CA,  provides South Asian designer wear for rent at affordable prices! Indus Threads provides access to high-end designer outfits to your door step through its rental service. With wedding season in full swing, buying outfits for each event gets expensive fast. And with the changing trends, styles, and designers, outfits are becoming dated one season to the next.

#WeddingSeries – Indian Inspired Wedding Cards by Made by Badal

// Cards by Made By Badal //

As you probably guessed by now, I loved the idea of cute, customized props for our wedding. From chalk boards to welcome signs, I had so much fun coming up with ideas and bringing them to life. One of the intentions Shiv and I set for our wedding was to have fun and make each event a celebration. It’s easy to get stressed out, take things too seriously, and get bogged down in the details during your wedding. Instead, we made a schedule and ideas that worked for us. Given my husband was laid back when it came to planning, I was able to indulge in my creatively quirky side. While some (ok most) ideas were a bit far fetched, the ideas we did decide on turned out so fun! For example, our photographer planned a first look shoot before our ceremony. We wanted the photos to be more casual and fun and not be too posed. We decided to write each other messages and exchange our cards at our first look.  We found fun Indian-inspired cards by Made By Badal. On Badal’s Etsy site, there are a wide variety of cards for us to pick from. My favorites are the Bridesmaids card, festival cards, and of course “Your Are My Favorite Ladoo”. Badal also designs items such as henna inspired table numbers, which we used during our reception!

#WeddingSeries – Newlywed Bridal Shoot with Indus Threads!

“How’s married life?” is the first question I get from family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and almost everyone I’ve met since our wedding day.  While I usually answer with the typically “it’s great” response, I always wonder how to truly answer this question. Life as a newlywed is full of emotions. A new home, responsibilities, family, friends, location are just a few of the changes that you experience. It’s a time when you mature, grow, and find yourself like never before.  There are of course ups and downs, but through these moments you discover what marriage is truly about. This time as a newlywed is a celebration of discovery and love all at the same time. I wanted to capture this time as a newlywed and found just the right team to make it happen here in the Bay  area!
