2017 Thank You

Happy New Year to you and your family! I hope you had a warm and joyful holiday season. I spent December back home in Maryland and had the most amazing trip. I took time off from the blog and social media to spend time with family, friends, and everything I miss living away from home (Trader Joe’s, Marshall’s, Costco, my eyebrow lady, etc. :) I can’t wait to share a recap of my trip (and flying overseas with a 3 month old baby!), my new years resolutions, and my 2018 goals for Social and Style. I spent a lot of time reflecting on all the blessings 2017 brought us and how I plan to grow and evolve Social and Style in 2018! 2017 has been the most blessed year of my life. This year brought us our Baby Aadhav. The love and joy I feel watching Aadhav grow and experience the world fills my heart with happiness and purpose. The last 12 months have been some of the toughest, emotional, and blessed moments in my life. Thank you for being a part of this journey. I am excited to share my favorite moments and blog posts of the year with you!

2017 Thank you for…

  1. Baby Aadhav: When I found out I was expecting, I was so excited. Of course there was a part of me that was nervous too. Will I be a good mother? What will the delivery be like? How will I be able to manage my career, goals, and motherhood? Now that Baby Aadhav is here – I still don’t have all the answers and I’ve learned that is ok.  Each morning I thank God for bringing Baby Aadhav into our lives and will always remember 2017 for this blessing.
  2. A Village: During these last 12 months, I am so grateful for all the support I’ve had. From new friends in Singapore who became family to my mom spending 3 months with Aadhav and me, I could not have done it with our village.
  3. Covetella: Changing careers in my third trimester and joining a fashion startup was not easy but it was so worth it. I’ve learned so much transitioning from a 12 year career in management consulting to joining the startup world with Covetella – Singapore’s premier fashion rental destination. Getting to wear fabulous dresses was pretty awesome too!
  4. Features: Since I was a little girl, I would pour over the pages of magazines with one secret wish – to see myself on those pages one day. This year, I was featured in my first print publications by Expat Living Magazine and The Business Times! I was also featured in Harpers Bazaar Singapore and HerWorld Magazine. It’s such a surreal experience to have this dream come true and makes me even more confident that we can all make our dreams a reality.
  5. Health: During my 9 months of pregnancy, my health and the baby’s heath were my constant focus. I learned the importance of listening to my body and resting when I needed to. Throughout my pregnancy and post natal recovery I tried to stay healthy and active. I thank all those years of doing sit-ups, crunches, and HIIT for my delivery and recovery.
  6. Travel: I loved our travels in 2017! I started the year by going back to the US to meet my newborn niece Sarina in Houston. I was six weeks pregnant and will always remember sharing the news with my sister! We then went to Koh Samui in Thailand, Bali for our Babymoon, and Paris for a Babymoon Part II!
  7. Collaborations – I started Social and Style to help support female entrepreneurs and small businesses. I am proud to have collaborated and supported companies such as Umani (Jai Jai Hooray Flashcards), Lustre, and JumpEatCry.
  8. Taking a Break: During my first trimester, I took a 4 month break from social media and blogging. It was not planned but I just felt so unwell with constant nausea and evening sickness. The break helped me realize how much time social media was taking from my life. I enjoyed being present in the moment and not worrying about sharing on social media, taking the perfect photo, or comparing myself to other people.
  9. Faith in God: There were many times in 2017 that I felt scared, alone, and unsure of myself. It was during these times that I strengthened my faith in God. The first 3 months of 2017 were especially tough. I missed my family and friends back in the States so much. I didn’t have many people to turn to since I was still so new to Singapore. While I was going through these times, I prayed for the strength to move forward and learn from these lessons. Through these experiences, I learned how strong I really am and how powerful God is.
  10. You!: Your love and support helped keep me and the blog going during these last 12 months. There were times when I thought maybe I should stop blogging, but then I would get a message from a reader saying I helped them in some way. You messages, comments, and love meant to so much. Your love for Aadhav has given me the strength to keep blogging and share my motherhood journey with you. Thank you for being such an important part of 2017!
