2018 OUR Year

Wearing KiranXPawana

2018 is OUR Year! Before every New Year, I make a list of goals I want to accomplish. Previous goals have been to reach a new level in my career, start a non-profit, get my masters degree, and my favorite goal – get married! Over the years I’ve learned that sometimes I became too focused on the goal and forgot to enjoy the experiences along the way. I also learned that really specific goals can sometimes make my vision too narrow and left little room for serendipity. Everyone always says to set measurable goals but sometimes my goals are more about energy and emotions. The most important thing I’ve learned over the years is to not make my goals all about myself. When I set goals with the intention to help others or contribute to my family, friends, and community – those goals almost naturally manifest because my intention is aligned with my energy. That is why I am making 2018 OUR year. I’ve never wanted Social and Style to be about me. I started Social and Style with the intent to inspire women and create a platform for female entrepreneurs and small businesses. With social media, blogging often feels like it’s a me, me, me game. Where people only share the highlights of their lives. I don’t want to be that way. I want to be a voice not an echo. I’m here today, 3 years later, still blogging because of your support. This year, I want to create content that YOU want to see. I want to challenge myself to share more real life stories and use the platforms I have access to (YouTube, Instagram, Podcasts, etc. ) to deliver content in an original and meaningful way. I’m sharing how I prepare my goals with you. I hope I can help in some way to make your 2018 the best year of your life. I would love to hear suggestions on what you want on this space in the comments below!

Creating New Year Goals

To help set my goals up for success, I create a foundation using a Google Sheet to chart out my goals – find the Template Here.

  • Focus – First write areas I want to focus in life. This year my focus areas are: Motherhood, Marriage, Mindfulness, Finances, Learn, Health, Blog, Passion project
  • Intent – Next I write down the intentions I have for the year. For example: Be present with Aadhav, Practice gratitude, Feel strong and healthy, Manage my time effectively, Start a business that solves a problem.
  • Goal: Then I write down the actual goal. I start each goal with an action verb and I try to be as clear and succinct as possible. This year my goals include: Read 5 books a day with Aadhav, Start each morning with a prayer / mantra for Aadhav and me, work out 3-4 times a week.
  • Measure: To measure my progress, I create columns for each month. At the end of each month, I write down how I am doing for each goal. I take time to reflect on what I need to change, stop doing, and do more of. This practice really helps me focus on the journey and not just meeting the goal. I ask myself is this goal brining me joy? Am I giving enough time to this goal? What can I change to make meeting this goal more fun and meaningful?
