#DesignerSpotlight – Chetna Singh Scarfs

// Scarf by Chetna Singh Scarves //

Growing up, I was always drawn to art. I loved different types of mediums from painting and photography to ceramics and architecture. While I pursued more traditional paths in education and a career in finance and management consulting, I have always been inspired to follow my creative calling. Colors, patterns, and texture inspire me. I think that’s why I love fashion so much, since it gives me the opportunity to explore my passion for design. Thankfully, through the blog, I have been able to connect with so many talented designers and artists. One of these people is Chetna Singh – founder of Chetna Singh Scarves.

Chetna is a successful ER doctor, mother, and wife. Following her creative passion, she finds time to create art that is so beautiful and pure. When I first came across Chetna’s art, I was excited to see how she had taken her designs and applied them to fashion by designing her own line of scarves and pocket squares. I love how each piece is so unique and makes a subtle statement. Wearing my scarf during a wine tasting trip to Napa, I was stopped by so many people asking about the print, fabric, and design. While at the winery, I was amazed by how many ways I could wear the scarf. I started by wearing the Buddha inspired print over a long blank tunic. As the weather became more intense with the afternoon sun, I wore it around my neck to add a bit of color to the look. Finally as the evening set, I wore it around my shoulders to add warmth to the crisp evening Napa Valley air. After speaking with Chetna, I was excited to share how I styled the scarf with you!

#DesignerSpotlight – Chetna Singh Scarves

  • Tell us more about Chetna Singh Scarves –  They are my original artwork, digitally printed on pure Indian silk. The translation from art to scarf works beautifully on silk, while affording a luxurious feel and keeping you cool in the summer and warm in winter. A piece of art that is unique. It’s yours to wear or frame and even decorate if you prefer!
  • Who do you create your designs for?  She is a confident and worldly. She travels, enjoys Friday evenings spent in the art galleries downtown, and can be found seeking out the next great bottle of Pinot Noir. She is stylish but not trendy, she’s busy but happy. She tries new things but never forgets her favorites. She loves an adventure, whether that’s found exploring Venice in a gondola or getting lost in a piece of fiction in her favorite chair.
  • What inspires your art? I work mostly in oils but love mixed media too. My artwork is influenced by my Indian heritage, as well as my love for mythology, travel, people, and horses.
  • How did you decide to start designing scarves? Have you always had a dream and waited for it to turn real? Me too! Painting has been a passion and an outlet for me and I always dreamt of working with it, but in an unconventional way. One day while I was working on a canvas, I looked at the colors and the texture and I thought, “Wouldn’t it be really fantastic to wear this?”. That’s where the idea of “Art Scarves” was born.
