#PartyPlan – Evening Chai and Chaat party

Hosting dinner parties and get togethers is one of my favorite things to do. With busy schedules on the weekends, sometimes having people over on a weekday is the best way to catch up. Working a full day, getting ready for a weekday soiree can be a daunting task. I’ve developed a few tips along the way to make hosting a mid-week dinner party a little easier!

Tips on planning an evening get together

  • Make the menu easy – Cooking a seven course meal on a weekday is just not practical. Instead, create your menu based on a theme, what your guests enjoy, and what’s easy. Thankfully, my friends and I love chaat (as you may already know!).
  • Cook semi-homemade – While I wish I could make all my dishes from scratch, semi-homemade dishes come in very handy when you don’t have a lot of time to prepare. My favorite dish was the  idly cocktail chaat (pre-made idlis sauteed with tomatoes, onions, cumin, curry leaves, chilli pepper, chaat masala, and a dash of pav bhaji masala).
  • Everyone loves desserts – To make the evening sweeter, I created a little buffet of desserts: fresh cantaloupe (cut the day before), Nanak Rasmalai (amazing) , and mini muffins!
  • Decor game – A color theme will help you find little things around the house that you likely already have (candle holders, bottles, vases). Also, fresh flowers always add charm to any table scape. Another hit idea was buying a simple frame (from the Dollar Store!) and writing out the menu and framing it.
