KC – Makeup by Karuna Chani Master Class – September 17, 2015 in NYC

  • Tell us about your exciting updates since we last chatted! I launched my own makeup studio in the NOMAD area in New York City. It’s exciting since I can do a lot more one-on-one and group makeup sessions. I’m also continuing to do bridal showers, baby showers, birthday bashes, anniversary events and weddings.
  • What is the inspiration behind KC-Master Class? During all the years I’ve been in the industry, I found that there is a gap. There are not enough beauty products for South Asian skin tones. I developed the KC-Master Class to narrow down products and techniques specifically for South Asian women. For instance, I will provide hands on tutorials on how to highlight and contour in 3 easy steps.
  • What makeup tips and secrets will we learn during the class? I will teach students techniques such as finding the right base color to the art of concealing dark circles. I’ve packaged all the steps in simple 2 to 3 steps processes such as correct, conceal, and set to teach you how to create a fresh glowing face without a lot of time and products.
  • How can readers enhance their natural beauty without a lot of makeup? Each person has their best feature. The secret is to find that feature and to play it up For example, add kajol to beautiful eyes or glam up your full lips.
  • Tell us about your favorite experience as a leading international bridal makeup artist. Last week, I was the makeup artist for the Chief Scientific Officer of PepsiCo, Dr. Mehmood Khan’s daughter-in-law Dr. Sheekha Sethi. She is such a warm, smart, beautiful, and vivacious woman. Her face was such an inspiration. On the day of the wedding, the bride received a gorgeous kundan and polki necklace to wear during the wedding. When she put it on, it fell to the ground and broke! Putting the design skills I learned from Parsons to good use – I looped each diamond with the sewing kit from the hotel. With the help of a jeweler who was on site, we were able to put the necklace back together. I truly believe in making every effort to make the day perfect for the brides I work with.
  • What’s next for Karuna?! I’m excited for the class on Sept 17th at the Helen Mills Theater in NYC. We will be providing gift bags close to $1,000 for attendees! I will continuing to do weddings and events. We are also expanding the KC-Makeup team and coming out with my own palate – stay tuned!

  1. The effort she put into her client’s wedding apart from the makeup is worth appreciation. :) Would love to know a few tips and tricks for dark circles- rarely do professionals on YouTube cover Asian skin tones..
