New Mom Energy Boosts!

// Robe c/o Pajama Sutra //

As a new mom – the one thing I need is more energy! Baby Aadhav gets up early (5-6 am!) and from then on my day is filled with playtime, laundry, pumping, food prep, cleaning, walks, hugs, and finally bedtime. After Aadhav goes to sleep, I have dinner with the hubs, catch up with family and friends back home in the States, work on the blog, and knock things off my to-do list. By the end of my day, I am ready for sleep! In the New Year, I’ve started focusing on my energy and how I spend my time. I noticed a few things that have really helped give my energy a boost! I’m sharing my tips for more energy and would love to hear your suggestions in the comments below!

New Mom Energy Boosts!

  • Mornings: Starting my day with a morning mantra has really helped me kick off the day with positivity and ready to make the day productive. It’s tempting to check emails and social media first thing in the morning so keeping the phone away helps!
  • Stay Hydrated: As a nursing mom, I am constantly thirsty! When I stay hydrated, I feel more relaxed and less tired. Since drinking 8 + glasses of water a day is not easy, I try to flavor my water with fresh fruit, fennel, fenugreek seeds, and lemon.
  • Mind Body: Now that I am on day 13 of my 21 Days of Meditation, I can honestly say that taking 10 minutes out of my day to calm my mind has made a difference. While my mind does still tend to wander and think about things (like what should I have for lunch tomorrow), meditating before bed helps me sleep better and wake up more refreshed. Also going to the gym always helps keep me energized but finding time to go can be tough. I try to hit the gym at least 3 times a week with 4 times a week as my goal.
  • Laugh: There are days when I am really tired, and all I want to do is sleep or just sit on the couch with a good book. On these days, I make it a point to play with Aadhav as much as I can. His smile and laugh light up my day and give me so much joy. Baby Aadhav loves it when people smile and loves to smile back. When I am happy, he can feel my happiness and laughs and smiles even more!
  • Try something new: The one thing that drains my energy the most is feeling like I am stuck in a rut. Personally, I love changing things up. I think this is why I was a management consultant for 12 years – there was always a new project, client, location every 2-3 months. I’ve learned that I thrive in environments where there is change. Since my days are now on a schedule with feeding, pumping, and nap time, I look for ways to spice things up. For example, when I go out to run an errand I try to take a different route or if I am at the grocery store, I try to pick up something new. These little things help to keep life fun and adventurous (even if the adventure is at the grocery store!).
  • Inspiration: During my day, I try to surround myself with things that inspire me. Like when I am cooking, I listen to the How I Built This Podcast  or when the baby is asleep, I catch up on episodes of Shark Tank. I also receive Notes from The Universe everyday – they are so uplifting!

    Drinking water is definitely a great way of keeping one not only hydrated but energetic as well.. I am glad you have managed to complete 12 days of meditation. I could never get myself to meditate. Maybe time to give it a try again.

  3. These are some great tips! I like the way you are keeping yourself busy and giving yourself the required ‘me time’ while balancing the chaos of a world that is for new mums! P.S – I love Shark Tank too!

  7. This is such a gentle and effective reminder for me ! Self care is so so so important. And for somebody ‘drinking a glass of water’ might seem like too basic but at times we miss out on the basics itself!
