#DesignerSpotlight – Janam Maternity Saris & Beyond!

Maternity Sari c/o Janam Maternity

4 more weeks to go! It’s hard to believe that I am 36 weeks pregnant and full term – meaning Baby B could arrive anytime. With each day, I feel more prepared for the little one’s arrival. With the kicks becoming stronger, I have a feeling Baby B is excited to meet us too! As I enter the home stretch, it’s amazing to think about how much my mind, body, and life has changed. In the last few weeks, I feel pretty fatigued (all the time) and my hands, feet, and face are constantly swollen. Accepting these changes and not trying to push myself has helped me understand what’s important and how to prioritize. These days it’s all about comfort. I focus on how to feel calm and comfortable in my everyday life. When I connected with Parul, founder of Janam Maternity, her passion for creating comfortable and stylish South Asian maternity fashion resonated with me. I couldn’t wait to try the maternity sari for myself. As you know, I love Indian fashion but that has taken a back seat during pregnancy since most of my outfits didn’t fit or were too uncomfortable to wear. Janam Maternity has changed all that with the genius patent-pending Maternity Sari! The Maternity Sari is different from normal saris in many ways. First, the sari comes pre-pleated which alone is such a brilliant idea since I have so much trouble tying my own sari. Most important, the Maternity Sari comes with an expandable belly band to be worn around or below the belly. The sari took me less than 5 minutes to put on and I felt so at ease. Janam Maternity also makes Maternity Saris that cover the entire belly and nursing sari blouses! I chatted with Parul, a lawyer turned fashion entrepreneur  to learn more about the inspiration behind Janam Maternity!

Pregnancy Myths Decoded

Dress c/o Mayarya

I can’t believe I’m already 34 weeks pregnant! It feels like yesterday when I was in my first trimester, nervous about everything. Since then, I’ve learned to relax and enjoy my pregnancy. Now that I am in my last weeks, I’m reflecting on all that I’ve learned during these last 8 months. It’s amazing how much your body goes through and how you learn to trust and listen to your body (and growing baby!). It’s both mentally and physically exhausting, but truly a beautiful time. As I get closer to 40 weeks, I can feel the Baby’s movements more vividly every day. I wonder what it’s going to going to be like after pregnancy and that sets off a whole new feeling of nervousness! For now, I am trying to stay healthy and active as I finish the home stretch. Through out my pregnancy, I’ve received a lot of questions from what I am craving to where to find fashionable maternity wear. I’m sharing the realities of pregnancy in my Pregnancy Myths Decoded today!

My Maternity Fitness Routine

Top, Sports Bra, Leggings  c/o – BASE Athletica (promo code below!)

Since sharing my pregnancy news, so many of you have asked me to share my maternity fitness routine! On Instastories, I often share my fitness photos and I always get asked about what I actually do. For me, fitness has been a constant in my life for the past 16 years since my freshman year in college (wow that’s so long ago!). One thing that has really surprised me is how many misconceptions there are about working out during pregnancy. Many people have even written to me saying to take it easy and that I shouldn’t be working out at all. I always strive to put my baby’s health first and discuss my fitness routine with my OB during each visit. So far, I’ve been cleared to workout as much as my body feels comfortable. My OB always tells me to listen to my body first and foremost. Now that I am in my 7.5 month, I workout 1-2 times a week since I get pretty tired from my day job and my hands and feet are so swollen! I am excited to share my pregnancy fitness routine with you trimester by trimester. Always remember, each person’s pregnancy and fitness journey is unique – do what feels best for you. And always consult your doctor before trying any exercise – especially if you are expecting.  Thank you BASE Athletica for sending me this outfit (non maternity sized up!). Enter code ‘FITSOCIAL’ at checkout to get 20% off all ONZIE and DHARMA BUMS brands until 23 July. Would love to hear about your maternity fitness tips in the comments section below!

Style File 1.3

Photo // Expat Living Singapore Street Style Feature!  Photographer Ken Tan

Life in my third trimester has been full of changes! For the first time since February, I am feeling a lot more tired. By 9 pm each night, I am exhausted. Also – my hands and feet are constantly swollen, which make everyday tasks a lot more tough. Through the changes in my body, I am learning I need to slow down. Working in a startup is demanding and I’m trying to balance my blogging commitments as well. Over the last month, you may have noticed some issues with the format on the blog. About a month ago, there was a tiny formatting glitch which snowballed into my site completely going down! Since then, I’ve continued to have more issues, where I have to call my hosting provider during US business hours. As a result, I’ve spent many nights on the phone till midnight trying to get things sorted out. So far the site is back to normal, but I may have issues with updates I’ve been wanting to make. Thank you for your patience as I try to get the site back to normal. Also – I really appreciate your suggestions on article topics! Insta stories has been a great way to connect with you and hear what you are interested in. Keep the ideas coming. I am starting to work on posts in advance for when the baby comes and love hearing your ideas.
