#Designer Spotlight – Pink BANOO – empowering and inspiring through fashion

Pink BANOO + Social and Style

Recently, a friend planned a picnic at one of my favorite gardens outside of DC. Given how hot and humid it can be here in June, I wanted to wear something that was light and comfortable. Luckily the team from Pink BANOO helped me select a design from their summer collection that was perfect for the event. With elegant peach and gold embroidery, the tunic had a South Asian flare without being too heavy. I can’t wait to style the tunic with pants for my next brunch or with a cape blazer for an evening cocktail party. I chatted with Masuma, founder of Pink BANOO, to learn more about the company. After learning about Pink BANOO’s mission, I feel great knowing that I am supporting a brand that also empowers girls by donating a portion of their proceeds towards helping girls education in need.

Pink BANOO supports girls education worldwide. Pink BANOO donates 10% of their net proceeds towards helping girls education through innovative campaigns such as the United Nations Foundation, Girl Up. Girl Up envisions a world where all girls, no matter where they live, have the opportunity to become educated, healthy, safe, counted and positioned to be the next generation of leaders.

#Spotlight – Meet Masuma Mansuri, Founder of Pink BANOO.

  • Tell us about what inspired you to start Pink BANOO? Growing up, I’ve always had a love for fashion. In college, I majored in international relations and minored in textiles and clothing. I worked in corporate retail for Williams-Sonoma, LVMH, and at a fashion tech startup. All these experiences inspired me to start my own business. Thankfully, my family encouraged me to follow what my heart desired and allowed me to pursue my passion for creativity and design. My mom was a trailblazer in our community and inspired me to do what I love, while helping to make a difference. Pink BANOO’s mission is to empower and inspire, through fashion.
  • What does Pink BANOO mean to you? Banoo means ‘lady’ in Farsi and Urdu. For me, it means something more. It means sacrificing for those who you love. It means remembering those who made a difference in your life. And lastly, it means while you can do what you love, in the end, it only matters if you’ve inspired someone to make a difference in their world. Banoo is also the name of my mother, my inspiration.
  • What is your design philosophy? Our designs are contemporary fashion, geared towards modern day women. We focus on the ease of wearing an outfit. As a mom of two, I understand how important it is to have clothes that are comfortable. We also focus on versatility. Our designs are smart and stylish, so fashion savvy women can wear and style our pieces in multiple ways. I work with a team of design partners in Lahore, Pakistan and our production team to bring our beautiful design inspirations to life.
  • How is Pink BANOO different from other South Asian fashion companies? The quality and workmanship of our garments set us apart. Also the versatility of our designs and affordable prices make us accessible to women who want to look trendy, chic, and comfortable on a budget. We believe that every girl and woman should feel empowered and inspired to be stylish and successful.
  • What are the latest trends in South Asian fashion for the summer? – South Asian fashion has become very global. I see a lot of 70’s inspiration and use that in my summer collection from floral to fringe. Our customers love our long, flowing silhouettes for the summer.
  • What’s next for Pink BANOO?! Over the past year, we’ve put on trunk shows and popups in the Bay area. We are now bringing our trunk shows to Southern California, the Midwest, and East coast! We also plan to build out our e-commerce platform so women from around the world can experience Pink BANOO.
