Queen the Movie

Have you seen Queen? If not – go! Queen is the best Hindi film I’ve seen since Kai Po Che. Films like these are works of art with depth and meaning that can’t really be compared to a “typical” Bollywood movie. Sweet, simple, and sincere, Queen has everything going for it: clever script, on-point directing, superb editing, and amazingly talented actors. While some people say this movie belongs to Rani (Kangana Ranaut), I feel the entire case was brilliant from Lisa Hayden’s breakthrough performance to Rajkummar Rao’s continued ability to find layers within his characters. In a society that raises bahus (daughter-in-laws), this movie celebrates independence. I wouldn’t say this film is about women’s rights or feminism. It’s about life – living life. And understanding that your attitudes and beliefs create happiness, even when things don’t go according to plan.

Rating: ***** (five out five)

Verdict: A refreshing look at dealing with the unexpected, Queen will leave you cheering and rooting for Rani. And you may just be inspired to take a chance and follow the calling of your heart. Also the soundtrack, composed by Amit Trivedi, compliments the story perfectly. And my favorite part of the movie is the small, yet meaningful story of Taka. Would love to hear your review too!
