Can you believe Fall is right around the corner?! Here in Sonoma, the weather is getting crisper, the grapes are almost ripe, and I’m getting ready for the changing season. On the blog front, I ready for the next leap. While I’m thankful that I have grown and developed Social and Style – I want Social and Style to be THE leading destination for South Asian lifestyle. Normally, I don’t share my goals and dreams – but I’m learning if you want to make it happen you have to believe it and share it. One exciting project I am working on is developing a YouTube channel. Going on camera is not easy and I’m not sure how the videos will turn out – but I’m ready to give it a try. Can’t wait to share my first video in September!

Almost every week, I get messages from readers asking for advice on how to follow their passion, launch a start up, or grow a business. As you know from the #PowerWomen’s series, I am always inspired by women who make that leap and follow their dreams. One of these women is Reena Mathur, founder of ReeMat Designs. Meeting Reena in person, you can feel her energy and determination. A Stanford trained Civil Engineer turned entrepreneur, Reena’s journey and designs already have a huge fan following. I teamed up with Reena to style several pieces from her Fall collection. Stay tuned all week for our collaboration!

Meet Reena Mathur Founder of ReeMat Designs

  • What inspired you to start ReeMat Designs? I come from a family of engineers and was raised in Mumbai. After completing my Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, I moved to California and graduated with a Masters in Civil Engineering from Stanford University. My husband was studying at UC Berkeley and we met in the Bay area and despite attending rival schools, we got married. After working in the Bay area for several years, we moved to the east coast where I worked on heavy engineering projects for the City of New York. Priorities soon changed and “mommy mode” took over. In addition to our two kids, building our new home became a full-time project and our “third baby”. I also got involved in various charities and co-chaired fund raisers. Growing up in the eighties in India, your career choices were quite clear….if you were academically bright, you either became a doctor or an engineer. So I finally decided to break the mold and in between being a full-time mom, I started designing and curating custom statement jewelry pieces for myself, working with friends in India. It was something very creative and satisfying. Soon, I found myself designing for friends and family. Their encouragement led me to launch ReeMat Designs.
  • What makes your brand unique?  Our statement jewelry pieces are designed and curated by ReeMat Designs and handcrafted by artisans in India. These works of art are crafted using various materials including semi-precious stones, pearls, wood, kundan (indian gem-stone) and even paper. Each piece is painstakingly designed and has a “fusion twist” to it, combining contemporary with classic. Our mantra is “Jewelry with a Cause”, donating to various charities as we grow. Our collections have been on the runway at New York and San Francisco Fashion weeks and are carried by select upscale boutiques on both coasts. ReeMat Designs has been featured in Flawed Magazine in the UK and in Bibi Bridal Magazine in the US amongst various other publications. Miss Asia 2014, Anna Kile has also featured our designs in her editorial photoshoot. Our designs were modeled by the NYC Rockettes at a recent fashion event and our new collection will be seen in the upcoming fall issue of a Russian fashion publication.
  • What advice do you have for women on how to style statement jewelry? Our designs are truly fusion pieces designed to be incorporated into a daily wardrobe. Our collection is varied and there is something for every design aesthetic. Our bridal collection is designed separately and also has a custom line to create one of a kind pieces for your special outfit.
  • What are your favorite new pieces in your Fall Collection? Our new collection incorporates stunning new textured chokers incorporating various textures woven with kundan. Our scarves for fall and winter will have brand new designs. Our legacy collection contains stunning new chokers and necklaces for that special occasion.
  • Whats next for ReeMat Designs? To keep growing and to keep creating new and innovative designs and to increase social media presence and increase our E-commerce.

  1. Amy says:

Wow those earnings look great on you and love how you styled that jacket

  2. I really like the jacket you have on. What you said resonated with me… in order to make things happen you have to share your dreams.. and just 2 days ago I posted one of Oprah’s saying.. in life you get what you have the courage to ask for. can’t wait to see your video.
