Expat Living Singapore – June 2017 Feature!

Exciting news, my first print magazine feature in Singapore is out! Thank you Expat Living SG for including me in your June issue.  When I first found out we were moving to Singapore, I decided to embrace the move wholeheartedly. While I missed my family and friends like crazy, I wanted to make the best of this new adventure. By God’s grace, we found out I was expecting on Christmas Day 2016. We were so thankful learn about the news. As the weeks progressed, I had a tough first trimester with nausea and tiredness. On top of that, I was interviewing for jobs and trying to settle into our new home.  Dealing with so much change, a new country, while trying to move my career forward and make new friends was one of the toughest points in my life.

Hi…I’m Back!

Babymoon Bali Rent a Dress SG 11

// Photo location: Westin Bali // Dress c/o: Rent A Dress SG

I want to start this post by saying I’m back and I missed you! Sometimes, you need to take a break from blogging and focus on what matters most in your life. More on that in upcoming posts… While I never expected the break to be this long, I am thankful that I took time to reflect, mature, and be thankful for what I have in life. As you may remember from previous posts, the move to Singapore went smoothly and I am proud of myself for adapting to my new home so quickly. Soon after the New Year, I went back to the US to meet my new baby niece. It was then that I realized I needed to pause and be more present in my life. Blogging had started to become a main priority rather than a creative outlet that I loved. Thank you for all your messages and patience during this time.  So many of you wrote to me checking to see if I was ok and that meant so much. Now that I feel rested, I am full of ideas to write about! While I was away, I learned I loved fuss-free healthy cooking, read a ton of books (I can’t wait to share with you), and most important – I want to get back to writing about topics that inspire readers. Relaunching the #PowerWomen series is something I am excited about, along with lots of travel posts (next up our trip to Bali)!

My Sister’s Garden Themed Baby Shower

Garden Themed Baby Shower Dresses

Next month, I will be a Masi 2x! Being a Masi (Aunt) is such an amazing feeling and a role I treasure deeply. My nephew Shaan has brought so much joy into our lives and we can’t wait for Shaan’s little sister to arrive. To celebrate, we held a Garden Themed Baby Shower for my sister. Since I was moving to Singapore the following week, my Mom and I planned the baby shower over the phone and got all the decorations three days before the celebration! Thankfully we had a lot of support from our family and friends. From my best friend Ashima, who designed the beautiful cake, to my friends who helped with all the clean up – the shower was perfect. My sister does so much for our family and is always there to support me. We were so excited to shower her with love and celebrate!  Here’s how we planned the shower and my favorite memories!

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is such a beautiful holiday. Taking time to reflect on what you are grateful for and celebrating with loved ones is so important in the face-paced world we live in. For the first time in my life, I’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving outside the US. Living in Singapore, I’ve been introduced to the large expat community here. There are lot of Thanksgiving celebrations all over the country and I am looking forward to celebrating with new friends. This Thanksgiving is even more special for me since I have so much to be thankful for. Not having my mom act like world is ending – now that I am finally married is probably what I am most thankful for. Just kidding (ok maybe not ;) Jokes aside, I wanted to share what I am most thankful for this Thanksgiving since you are one of them!

Hi From Singapore!

topshop-midi-skirt-x-nordstrom-64

Hi from Singapore! We moved on Sunday and so far the transition has been wonderful. I feel so blessed for all your support and love. Moving isn’t easy but thankfully Singapore already feels like home. While I miss my family and friends in DC and Santa Rosa (Sonoma) so much, the move to East Asia has been smooth so far. Currently, we are living in a service apartment on Orchard Road, right in the heart of shopping district! Besides shopping, there is a lot to do within walking distance and all the other neighborhoods are a short MRT (subway) ride away! I’ve already tried bootcamp, kickboxing, cafes and of course exploring Little India. The welcome to Singapore has been so heart felt and fellow bloggers and entrepreneurs have welcomed me with open arms. Today I had a lovely lunch with Richa from Urban Mantra and tomorrow I am attending a trunk show with designers Pankaj and Nidhi. While I was in Maryland before the move, I couldn’t wait to try Fall’s hottest trend  – velvet. As you all know, I’m obsessed with midi skirts and fell in love with this one from TopShop. At first, I couldn’t find a top that worked well with the skirt in my closet. Rather than buy something new, I wore the skirt over an off shoulder dress from H&M and was just $20! I’ll be sharing more of my outfits from my trip to Maryland over the next few weeks on the blog (It’s def not sweater season here in SG). I can’t wait to share more of Singapore with you as I get settled into our new home. Love you all!
