How to pick Indian Jewelry that you can actually wear again!

Earrings c/o Sangeeta’s Bazaar

If you followed this blog for a while, you know I love Indian fashion and accessories! Sometimes I think back to when I was a child who refused to wear her Indian clothes in public. I remember one time when I was 10 and my mom wanted to go grocery shopping after a morning puja at our Temple. I refused to enter the store in my salwar kameez. My mom, being the strong mom that she is, would not let me say in the car alone. I finally agreed but only after I put on a jacket – in 90 degree heat! Since then, I’ve come a long way in accepting and embracing my Indian culture. It wasn’t easy but finding a South Asian American community in college that I could connect with helped. Now I love everything Indian from movies to fashion. When I first started blogging, I was into to the latest trends in South Asian fashion and designer wear. While I still am interested in trends and designer wear, I prefer outfits and accessories that will last more than a season. That is why I love finding jewelry that is classic yet contemporary. When I met Sangeeta, founder of Sangeeta’s Bazaar on Instagram, I loved her designs. I  teamed up with Sangeeta to put together our tips on how to pick Indian jewelry that you can actually wear again!

Style File: Volume 1

Earrings c/o: Sangeeta’s Bazaar

Now that I’m in my 23rd week, I am feeling great. I hear I’m in the honeymoon period of pregnancy and it definitely feels like it! I feel healthy and strong and that’s what matters most. As you know from previous posts, I had a great transition to Singapore and felt truly welcomed by all the people I met. Over the last few months, I was way less social in person and on social media. I realized what I missed most was connecting to people. I am such a social and talkative person by nature and I love sharing what motivates and inspires me. I’m excited to start a new series on the blog where I talk about my favorite finds from fitness to fashion!

How to Rock your ‘6-11’ Side Hustle with ReeMat Designs

Earrings by ReeMat Designs

//Earrings by ReeMat Designs //

I started Social and Style with two goals: gain experience launching a venture and help other female entrepreneurs fulfill their purpose. Flashing back two years, I was sitting in a grad school classroom waiting to hear about our class project. During grad school, I worked full-time and then spent my evenings / weekends in school. Intense and challenging, the program helped me discover what you can really accomplish when you focus on your time and energy. I also learned the importance of switching hustle mode off. My mind needed a break from the work-school-work grind. I knew I wanted my project to be something creative, fun, and that truly interested me. There in that classroom, the idea for Social and Style was born. Since college, I’ve been deeply involved in the South Asian community. Through my involvement, I realized that there was a lack of communication and ways for South Asian women to collaborate and share ideas. Sure there are Facebook Groups, Networking Groups, etc. but I wanted to create a platform to share and discover ideas. After doing some research, I realized that a blog was the best way to get started. Two years later, Social and Style has grown, evolved, and become a part of me. The blog has always been something I worked on during my ‘6-11’ or after (‘8-6’) work hours. Recently, I read an article in Forbes, How Millennials Can Find Fulfillment By Pursuing A ‘6-11‘. The article felt so spot on and I wanted to share my own experience pursuing on my ‘6-11’. For this post, I paired my outfit with earrings from ReeMat Designs. I am big fan of the company’s founder, Reena Mathur,  and just love how these earrings can be paired with just about anything from indian wear to western looks!

A Beginners Guide to Daring to Dream with ReeMat Designs

ReeMat Designs x Social and Style part 39

// Weave Collar – ReeMat Designs//

Daring to dream. When I close my eyes and take a moment to be present, I can feel my dreams inside me. As I inhale, the dreams get bigger and I feel them expanding, becoming larger than life.  When I open my eyes, poof. The dreams quickly go back inside. Finally, I am taking the time to ask myself why. Why is it that I can feel my dreams so deeply, yet in the ‘real world’ they seem to disappear. With the business of life, these feelings get muted by daily tasks, to-do lists, errands, and social media. What I know for sure is that we all have a calling – a purpose. For me, the calling is clear yet seems so distant. During my two years of blogging, I’ve hinted at my calling by profiling South Asian female entrepreneurs like Reena Mathur (founder of  ReeMat Designs). Yet, I’ve never had the courage to share my dream – until today. Honestly, it’s not easy – daring to dream. It’s easier to think that a) the life I have now is fine b) my dream can’t happen because (insert excuse here), c) I don’t have what it takes / it’s to hard. When I see others achieving success, I get inspired for a few moments and then start comparing myself. I am finally taking a stand and learning to channel my energy into something more productive. That starts with putting my dreams out there. Deep breath – here I go. My dream is to start my own business that helps the lives of others. Exhale. It feels good to release what I’ve had stored in for so long!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Themed Brunch with Shillpa Purii Designer Jewellery

Shillpa Purii Designer Jewelry 3

// Earrings by Shillpa Purii Designer Jewellery //

Over the weekend in Sonoma, I attended a Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed brunch. Wearing this summer’s off-shoulder trend, I added statement studs from Shillpa Purii Designer Jewellery. I’ve always loved statement earrings, but wearing oversized jewelry can sometimes make a look seem too done up. Instead, I wanted to channel my inner Audrey Hepburn and be simple and elegant. The studs added just the right amount of understated glamour. Since the brunch was outdoors, I added oversized cat-eyed sunglasses that my SnapChat Fam helped me pick out! Next week, I have a really exciting collaboration coming up where I’ll wear these studs with an Indian outfit designed by one of my favorite designers from India! And as promised, I’ll be sharing our wedding events with you. Lot’s to look forward to in  June / July including a trip to Ireland! Stay tuned and thank you for all your support!
