A Better Florist – Every reason is the perfect reason for flowers.

Mom to be in White gown holding flowers from A Better Florist

Every reason is the perfect reason for flowers. Flowers hold a special place in my heart. My mom loves flowers and spends hours in her garden tending to her beautiful blooms. My Grandfather, who worked in Ludhiana’s Agricultural University, grew up tending to our family’s farm and flower fields. My Grandpa instilled the importance of agriculture to his three daughters by teaching them about botany, flower arrangement, and gardening. My mom always feels close to her father when she is around flowers. Now that I am away from home, I too feel my mother’s presence around flowers. For me, fresh flowers light up a room and make our home feel cozy, especially when I miss my family and friends back in the US. When I moved to Singapore, I searched for places to buy flowers both affordably and easily. Thankfully, I found A Better Florist!

Hi…I’m Back!

Babymoon Bali Rent a Dress SG 11

// Photo location: Westin Bali // Dress c/o: Rent A Dress SG

I want to start this post by saying I’m back and I missed you! Sometimes, you need to take a break from blogging and focus on what matters most in your life. More on that in upcoming posts… While I never expected the break to be this long, I am thankful that I took time to reflect, mature, and be thankful for what I have in life. As you may remember from previous posts, the move to Singapore went smoothly and I am proud of myself for adapting to my new home so quickly. Soon after the New Year, I went back to the US to meet my new baby niece. It was then that I realized I needed to pause and be more present in my life. Blogging had started to become a main priority rather than a creative outlet that I loved. Thank you for all your messages and patience during this time.  So many of you wrote to me checking to see if I was ok and that meant so much. Now that I feel rested, I am full of ideas to write about! While I was away, I learned I loved fuss-free healthy cooking, read a ton of books (I can’t wait to share with you), and most important – I want to get back to writing about topics that inspire readers. Relaunching the #PowerWomen series is something I am excited about, along with lots of travel posts (next up our trip to Bali)!

2017 Let’s Do It! As we head into the New Year, I’m getting ready for an amazing 2017. While I shy away from resolutions, I decide on 3-5 goals to focus my thoughts and decisions for the year ahead. I typically spend the days before New Year’s Eve relaxing and spending time with loved ones. This helps me to clear my head and allow myself to think about my priorities, goals, and passion. During this time, I also reflect on the direction and purpose of Social and Style. Blogging is a part of my life that takes time and energy. I want to make sure I am using my time and energy wisely. When I started Social and Style, my vision for the blog was to be a platform to inspire readers. From the #PowerWomen series to supporting local businesses, my goal for Social and Style is to uplift others. In Singapore, I am learning more about the startup scene and local small businesses. Each founder I meet, always inspires me with their story and journey. I look forward to introducing you to these entrepreneurs in a new series #SingaporeSpotlight, starting with Manisha Gattani founder of Linen & More!

#DiscoverSingapore – Emerald Hill Road

Discover Singapore! I am excited to launch a new series on the blog today. So many of you have asked me to share more about living in Singapore from the streets to the food after seeing my stories on Instagram and Snap (SocialandStyle). Through this series, I’ll be sharing my favorite hidden gems in Singapore (SG). For our first few months in SG, we will be staying in a service apartment, which is centrally located by the Somerset MRT (subway/metro) off Orchard Road. For those who have not visited, Orchard Road is the main shopping area where you can find everything from high-end luxury goods to hawker centers (local street food). We are lucky to be living so close to everything. Once we move to our own apartment, we’ll likely be further away from the city so I am enjoying living in Orchard to the max! During my first week in SG, I ventured off Orchard Road and found a beautiful side street called Emerald Hill. Little did I know that this street would become one of our favorite places to dine and hang out! Here are a few of our favorite places on Emerald Hill Road!

Giving Thanks

topshop-sweater-x-nordstrom-v2

Thanksgiving is such a beautiful holiday. Taking time to reflect on what you are grateful for and celebrating with loved ones is so important in the face-paced world we live in. For the first time in my life, I’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving outside the US. Living in Singapore, I’ve been introduced to the large expat community here. There are lot of Thanksgiving celebrations all over the country and I am looking forward to celebrating with new friends. This Thanksgiving is even more special for me since I have so much to be thankful for. Not having my mom act like world is ending – now that I am finally married is probably what I am most thankful for. Just kidding (ok maybe not ;) Jokes aside, I wanted to share what I am most thankful for this Thanksgiving since you are one of them!
