Hope you all are having a great summer! I’ve been enjoying the California sunshine and my new home here in Sonoma. Since moving to Cali, I’ve noticed a few things about myself and fashion style. Honestly, I’ve been in a bit of a style rut these past few months. As a fashion blogger, I am always writing about trying new things and experimenting. Yet, I noticed from my Instagram feed that most of my looks have the same type of style and feel. The main reasons are that I gravitate to a lot of floral prints and coral / pink colors. After a while (and a closet full of flower prints!), I wanted to make a change.  My first experiment was styling a date night outfit.  I wanted something that was in trend, easy to wear, and different from what I normally wear – but still reflected my style philosophy. When I started Social and Style, I wanted to create a platform that reflected my values, passion, and South Asian heritage. Personally, I love adding South Asian touches to my outfits. For the date night look, I wore my favorite jeans with a tank and added a choker to give the look a bit of edge. To finish the style, I selected a gold clutch from Arya Trinkets & Threads.  After seeing Arya Trinkets & Threads on Etsy, I love how the brand derives inspiration from South Asian antique and contemporary pieces and injects their own little signature twist to it. Check out Arya Trinkets & Threads to see more of their fashion and accessories collection!

#WeddingSeries – Newlywed Bridal Shoot with Indus Threads!

// Sari Sabyasachi from Indus Threads //

“How’s married life?” is the first question I get from family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and almost everyone I’ve met since our wedding day.  While I usually answer with the typically “it’s great” response, I always wonder how to truly answer this question. Life as a newlywed is full of emotions. A new home, responsibilities, family, friends, location are just a few of the changes that you experience. It’s a time when you mature, grow, and find yourself like never before.  There are of course ups and downs, but through these moments you discover what marriage is truly about. This time as a newlywed is a celebration of discovery and love all at the same time. I wanted to capture this time as a newlywed and found just the right team to make it happen here in the Bay  area!

Design your Diwali outfit with IndiaBoulevard!

India Boulevard X BrownGirl X Social and Style collaboration 01

Diwali is my favorite time of year. I love the festivities, food, and fireworks! With all the celebrations, it’s easy to worry about how to manage it all and have fun. This year, I teamed up with BrownGirl Magazine and IndiaBoulevard to design a Diwali look that I could effortlessly wear from day to evening. I selected a beautiful powder blue anarkali with a contrast deep purple floral dupatta. I then added this season’s hottest accessory – a belt to style the look in two ways.

#DesignerSpotlight – Sachin & Babi

Sociala and Style Sachin and Babi for Anthropologie 115

One of my favorite things is discovering new South Asian designers with a style philosophy that I believe in. Thankfully, Anthropologie is the perfect place to find such designers. Browsing through the sales section at the F Street Anthro in Washington D.C., I found this green midi dress with embroidered flowers that fit perfectly. When I looked at the label, I was intrigued to learn more about the brand. I’m excited to have found the husband and wife duo behind Sachin & Babi and Noir Sachin & Babi. Over the last two decades, Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia have been developing embroidery and appliqué concepts. Sachin and Babi are known for their contemporary and evening wear that expresses their modern creativity and South Asian heritage.

If you follow me on Snapchat (Username: SocialandStyle), you know I had a little truth session yesterday. Lately it’s been tough to keep up with blogging while managing work, wedding planning, and staying in touch with family and friends. I was even thinking of putting the blog on hold while I recharged and felt like I had more time. Then I woke up yesterday morning to find  I had been featured on Washingtonian Magazine’s “35 DC Fashion and Style Instagram Feeds You Should Follow Right Now“! “Having started her blog to share her South Asian fashion, there’s lots of inspiration in this Instagram account—including what to wear to an Indian wedding,” I am so proud to share my love for South Asian culture and it was such an honor to be included among such talented women. It’s moments like these, and your messages, emails, and comments that keep me to keep going. Thank you. I am motivated more than ever to keep the blog going and create content that you hopefully will love!
