Now that Baby Aadhav is almost 6 weeks old, he’s growing so fast. He smiles all the time and started interacting a lot more. It’s the best feeling ever to see your baby smile and laugh, On the flip side, Baby A has also started a gassy phase which is not fun for both of us. We aren’t really on a schedule yet so every day is different. A lot of blogger friends have recommended Babywise – an eat, play, sleep philosophy for babies. My pediatrician was not a big fan so I decided to wait till Aadhav is a little older to be on a schedule. I would love to hear from you on how you created structure with your little one.  For now, I’m accepting that change is the new normal and remembering to embrace it. So many of you asked about my favorite products or tips for new moms. I’m excited to share my Top 10-Must Haves for a New Mom on the blog today. I would love to hear your top must-haves in the comments section below!

Top 10 Must-Haves for a New Mom!

  1. Grit: You would think that after growing a human inside you and delivering your little one, taking care of a baby would be a cakewalk. Nope! As a parent, you work around the clock to take care of your little darling. Seeing your child laugh and grow everyday is truly a blessing. But… a newborn does keep you on your toes! I’m learning how to keep calm, function with 4-5 hours of sleep, and keep working on making my goals happen. Which brings me to..
  2. Determination: On Instastories, I brought up the topic of pursuing your dreams as a mom. Little did I know this would spark such a debate! Most people agreed that the best thing you can do for your child is to teach by example. The universe doesn’t owe us anything – we have work to make our dreams come true. Whether you are a Stay At Home Mom, Working Mom, or in between, we all have dreams in our hearts and it is up to us to make them a reality.
  3. Support: On my last post, I talked about how important a support system is. Whether it’s a grandparent staying with you or hiring help – knowing that you don’t have to do it all on your own has really helped me. For me, having someone to help with house cleaning is huge since so much time is now spent on laundry, sterilizing, and cleaning up the baby!
  4. A Budget: I promise this list will get more fun soon…. but I do have to bring up budgeting. Babies are expensive! While at first it’s so fun to get all the nursery items, baby clothes, books, and toys – you soon realize that diapers, baby wipes, baby supplies add up. I am trying to start weekly meal plans to be more efficient with our groceries. I am also using budgeting as motivation to get back into my pre-baby clothes so I don’t have to buy a new wardrobe!
  5. Under eye cream: Probably THE most important on the list. With a newborn, your nights aren’t for sleeping anymore. Feeding, diaper changes, and pumping are the new nighttime ‘Normal’. Thankfully I found the BEST under eye cream just in time. Bye Bye Under Eye from IT Cosmetics is amazing. A little goes a long way and really helps with dark circles and fine lines.
  6. Color Corrector: I’m not sure color correcting is fun, but seeing bright red concealer on my face does make me smile. I wasn’t huge into color correcting before since I don’t like to wear a lot of products, but now I am a believer! This one from L.A. Girl helps with my under eye circles and is so affordable!
  7. Hydration  – When you are nursing, you get very thirsty. I try to drink a glass of water during every feeding. I keep a S’well water bottle with me and drink fennel water. Fennel seeds naturally help increase milk supply and is great to have when breastfeeding. I boil water and add a table spoon of seeds. I would normally would drink it hot but in Singapore I cool it in the fridge and drink.
  8. Nursing clothes: While I don’t plan to get a lot of nursing clothes, I have about 5 dresses that I wear often. I’m a big fan of nursing dresses from Jump Eat Cry. Asos also has dresses that are affordable but the size and quality is sometimes iffy. These dresses from Amazon are also my favs based on comfort, style, and price.
  9. Tribe: Every Mom needs her tribe. I’m lucky that almost all my girl friends had babies this year! Even though we don’t get to see each other or talk as often, when we do it’s so nice to have someone who can relate to everything you are going through. Sometimes you need encouragement, sometimes you need to vent, and sometimes you need to laugh! Having girlfriends to share this journey with is truly a blessing.
  10. Sleep!: Whenever and wherever you can  – sleep! At first I felt a little lazy taking a nap during the day. Now I realize that even a 10 minute nap does wonders.
  11. Eyebrow Lady: I added this one as a bonus! But really whether it’s your eyebrows, nails, or hair – a little pampering goes a long way. Even though leaving the house it not always easy, I find time to get my brows done each week (yes they do grow that fast!).
